Abstract The breeding of the Italian heavy draught horse (CAITPR), the only autochthonous heavy draught horse breed in Italy, represents a small reality that has been changing during the time, transferring the interest of farmers from the employment for agricultural work to meat production thus guaranteeing the survival of the CAITPR. With the intent of proposing an innovative farming system, the "Smarthorse" project proposes a highly practical, technological and precise farming system for the different aspects around CAITPR breeding. The project, as a pilot study, was carried out in three farms located in Umbria, Italy. Data about equine passport and genealogical booklet as well as the health status of the horses were transferred to a cloud platform available to veterinarians and farmers via Web App. The aim of the present work is to introduce a computerized and interactive farming system, through the use of wireless technology (RFID Bluetooth) necessary in field conditions and to create a dynamic, lasting and continuously updated interface for users.
