Abstract    As a part of the documentation produced on avian influenza, this editorial presents the monograph: "Plan to strengthen the surveillance system and avian flu prevention Umbria Region - The Umbrian poultry population". The publication accurately describes this zootechnical resource and its location in the regional territory, information that can be decisive in relation to the health, economic and political strategies to face the spread of Orthomyxovirus spp. The Umbrian poultry world is a productive niche (with peculiar characteristics) in the context of Umbrian animal husbandry, which extends beyond regional boundaries with supply chain farms. This publication is important because understanding the spatial distribution and the structural connotations of the poultry population means knowing where and how to effectively do prevention strategies
