LE BIBLIOTECHE SCIENTIFICHE PER SOSTENERE LE ATTIVITÀ IMPRENDITORIALI NEL SETTORE AGROALIMENTARE - SCIENTIFIC LIBRARIES TO SUSTAIN ENTERPRISE ACTIVITIES IN THE AGRI-FOOD SECTOR

Abstract   Scientific libraries represents resources that is little used for supporting practitioners and entrepreneurial activities. This is relevant in critical segments such as biotechnology startups, spin-offs or advanced agri-food businesses. Currently these sectors are the focus of European Community initiatives for SMEs with good potential for development. Entrepreneurial activities are linked to scientific knowledge for the identification of new business areas and application of advanced technologies to promote high quality productions, achieve new market segments, both in Italy and abroad. Libraries can act positively on the informational problem, allowing the on-demand access to information deriving directly from scientific research, for Freelancers. This would help overcome the substantially isolation of small production companies. Especially freelancers may self-manage a flow of reliable data and benefit from real-time research results, as well as legal - regulatory information. However, still there are problems to be overcome, related to legal aspects, above all copyright. Librarians must study new ways for disseminating data and information through the Library Space, offering information resources to their users in alternative ways
