Abstract   The present study was aimed at analyzing the sequence of PRNP gene in 10 Italian different goat populations (Camosciata delle Alpi, Saanen, Grigia Ciociara, Bianca Monticellana, Capestrina, Fulva del Lazio, Facciuta della Valnerina, Teramana, Garganica and Grigia Molisana) and in crossbreed goats, bred in central and southern Italy to evaluate the distribution of the K222 allele, which confers resistance to scrapie in goats
